MyShoppingGenie Review

Hi there,

I originally created this blog to promote my MyShoppingGenie business but by late 2010
I had come to the decision that I was no longer going to actively promote the opportunity.

Now let me be clear.  I believe that  My Net Universe is a good company and I think
they mean to do right by people and I have made some money in the opportunity.
It’s just not been profitable overall and in terms of fulfilling my mission of being
able to help my team make money, MyShoppingGenie is missing come
components that I think are essential.

Truth be told just about all companies in the MLM industry are missing one
key component. In fact it’s the holy grail of network marketing.

If you’re reading this post you’re probably either reviewing this opportunity
or you’re already on board so I’m gonna lay out my reason for leaving the business.
There are really just 3 main issues.

#1) Time to receive commission cheques: In general when you register a new
distributor in the business, or qualify for any of the bonuses you typically have to
wait 4 to 5 weeks or more to actually get paid and the timeframe seems to fluctuate
so you can’t easily predict when you’ll finally get your commissions.

This is especially true up here in Canada where we have to wait for a cheque to be mailed.
This started out being a bit of an annoyance but because the opportunity is so unique
(getting paid to give away a free product and all) I overlooked it. But as time progressed
it become more of an issue. Who want’s to have to wait so long especially when many
companies these days pay weekly or bi-weekly or even sooner.

#2) Dwindling Click Income: Now this has been a much bigger let down for me
since this was the factor that made this opportunity so unique to me. The fact that
all a person needed to do was give away the Genie and you could make money
when people use it meant that you didn’t need to be a super recruiter or salesman
to make money in this business.  But unfortunately I’ve seen a sharp drop in my
click income from a making a bit over $2 per Genie per month down to $1 to 50cents
down to… actually I don’t think I’ve even been paid for the last couple of months of click income.

At first I thought maybe it was just me. Maybe it was just my users who weren’t
using the software enough to earn me an income but after checking with other
distributors I saw that they’re income was dropping by pretty much the same amount.

So I don’t know what the issue is but that is a major reason that I lost confidence
with the MyShoppingGenie opportunity. But that wasn’t the final nail in the coffin.
That would be reason #3.

#3) Finding Prospects: To be truthful this issue is not unique to MyShoppingGenie.
It plagues just about every homebased business in existence. This is how it breaks down
you get someone on board your team and then they do nothing. Why?

Because they have no idea how to find people to talk to.  That’s why.

Or worse yet they innocently try to approach their best friend or brother-in-law
about it and get shot down in flames and they call you to quit the next day.
Every MLM business has this issue. That’s why the mlm leads and training
businesses are so lucrative.

Well when I joined MyShoppingGenie my hope was that the opportunity
would be so simple that it would bust through these challenges. I mean
who can’t give away something for free  and who can’t get people interested
in making money giving something away for free?  Well the answer is a lot of people that’s who!

So what’s the point about being good at recruiting if there’s no simple
predictable way to find people to promote your opportunity and products to?
You’ll just be working your butt off only to have your people quit or at best
sit there and do nothing.

So I decided that if I was going to build a home-based business that I needed
to solve that one primary issue.

And I’m happy to say that I’ve found it. In fact, the solution has been
around for over 10 years and to make matters worse I’ve known about it
for 9 years.

This opportunity is with a 10 year old company that does something
uniquely different in the industry.

They market their products via TV and Radio infomercials.
And through their advertising they acquire paying customers and business affiliates.

Here’s where it get’s freaky.

They allow their affiliates to partner with them in a Media Advertising Co-op Program
and when we participate in this Co-op Program the company will place
these customers and affiliates in our teams, giving us the life-time rights
to earn residual income on any purchases made by these customers.

Yes, you read correctly. The company does the recruiting and selling for us.

You might asking yourself. Can this really be a real deal? It sounds too good to be true.

Well ordinarily I’d probably completely agree with you cause there are
a lot of scams out there however, I’ve quietly been earning an income
with this company for the last 9 years having done exactly what I just told you.
Acquired customers from the company’s media advertising.

That’s right 9 YEARS RAIN OR SHINE.

Here’s my full review of the MyShoppingGenie product and opportunity. If you’ve been reading through this blog you’ll know that I’ve been in the MLM industry for a long time and in fact I got out of the industry for a number of years.

I had no intention of coming back to it either.  However despite that, I’ve decided to build a business with MyShoppingGenie.

In this review I’m going to do my best to explain my reasons why by going through the facts and evaluating both the pros and the cons.

I’m going to do this without hype because I don’t believe that you’re here for hype. I believe you want more than empty hype. I think that you’re reading this because you’re seriously looking for a business opportunity and you don’t want to waste your time and money on a pipe-dream or even worse a scam.

Now the reason I left the network marketing industry even after having some great success was because  I was tired of the constant hype about magical companies that will make you so much money if you just introduce a few people.

I’m sure you’ve heard it before.  Offers like “just get 2 people” and sit back as they get 2 and on and on and by next month you’ll be making $10k a month.

What a joke!

The reality is that this is a business and there’s no business that works that way.

Add to that the number of companies that fail,including the one I was making 6 figures with and you’ll understand why I say you have to be careful when picking an opportunity.

So like I said I had left the industry and didn’t plan to come back. But I guess fate had other ideas for me because at the beginning of May 2010 I found myself in St Louis listening to the CEO of My Net Universe, David Freed talk about the opportunity.

My arms were crossed, my legs were crossed…well almost everything was crossed.  I was waiting for the hype to come.

But it didn’t.

That was first thing that impressed me.

Unlike other opportunities I’ve seen in the past they didn’t spend much time focusing on their compensation plan.
Instead they spent all their time talking about the product they’ve created and the business team they’ve assembled and the vision  of where this simple product will go.

So what is the product?

MyShoppingGenie is a web application that can be installed and used for free by anyone in the world.

It is designed to help its users find the lowest price for anything that you’re shopping for. If you want to know how it works check out my first blog post titled “An Introduction To MyShoppingGenie” where I used it to save hundreds of dollars off a high end Dyson vacuum cleaner.

On average Genie users save between $200 to $300 a month. I’ve found that to be very realistic since having used it myself.  Click HERE and you can install it for free and test it out for yourself.

Now about the business team aspect. I’m not going to go into every single member. For that you can visit the official website.

But why that’s important is because you want to be with a company that has a clear vision and is building the right executive team that can take them there.

For instance one of their executive team member is Bill Shaw. Bill is a key person in Ted Turner’s organization (yes MR CNN).  You can google him yourself to find out more about him.  In fact if you’re a wrestling fan he was the head of World Championship Wrestling helping to turn them into the 2nd biggest company in the pro wrestling industry during the 90′s.

My point is that if you want to build a BILLION dollar brand you need to have people who have been there and done that, and it looks like this company is doing just that.

Companies that don’t do this may have a huge surge in business but they soon implode because they don’t know how to manage and grow the business or they run afoul of the authorities.

So here are Pros and Cons of the Genie Opportunity:

Pro #1- You don’t have to sell their product. You simply send people to your distributor website where they download it for free.

Pro #2- The product has real value regardless of the mlm opportunity. Meaning that regular non-MLMers people will want it because it saves them time and money

Pro #3- Distributors make money even if they don’t recruit because when people use the Genie App to save money, you make money every time they do. On average you make $2-3 a month per person that you give the App to. They use a business model that’s very similar to what Google uses to make Billions every year.

Pro #4- It only costs $199 to sign up as a distributor unlike a lot of programs out there which charge $500 to $1500 just to get your starter kit

Pro #5- It only costs $29/month for the monthly maintenance fee to keep track of your website and all your Genie giveaways unlike a lot of programs that make you purchase $100 to $200 a month of products that will probably end up sitting in your garage.

Pro #6- Recruiting is pretty simple, you just walk people through how the genie works or send them to your distributor website using a promotional business card.

Pro #7- You can use the Genie to market your primary MLM or even a traditional business quickly and easily.  So not only will you make a passive income by just giving Genie’s away but it’ll help you make money if you’re building another opportunity. It’s a very complimentary fit.

Now after all that this home-based business looks almost like the perfect business.  But nothing is perfect and neither is MyShoppingGenie.

Here are the Cons of this opportunity.

Con #1- It takes a while to start getting paid. When you recruit new distributors it is very lucrative and you can begin earning weekly checks but your first check takes 4 to 5 weeks to arrive. The reason for this is because the company offers 30 day refund period to people who pay the $199 to become a distributor. So they don’t pay out commissions until that period has elapsed. The downside is that if you need to make money tomorrow this business won’t do that for you but the upside is that the reason is because they’re an honest company.

Con #2- It can get pretty repetitive walking people through how the Genie works over and over again. Although that is the most effective way to get people on board.  But that’s why I created a set of videos explaining how the genie saves you money and another showing you how the opportunity works and even one showing you how you can use the Genie to market your primary Network Marketing business.

If you’re skeptical about downloading programs over the internet. You have my word its very safe. No viruses will crawl into your computer. And since the Genie is free there is zero risk involved. So that’s my pretty comprehensive review of the Genie opportunity. It is a very strong money making opportunity, it’s very unique and almost everyone I talk to about it is curious and wants to know more either because they want to know how they can make money or because they want to know how they can save money.

It’s not a get rich quick opportunity and will not make you money overnight. But if you’re willing to work, it pays really well.

I’ll give you an example.  The numbers I’m going to talk about are not huge and flashy but they serve to make the point that this business is easily doable for the average person.

In my first week alone I had 6 people join my team and which made me $450 upfront and  my first month I had 20 people install the free Genie App through my website. From those free giveaways my first passive residual check was over $42 which is more than what the monthly maintenance fee is ($29).

Forgetting about the recruiting money, imagine if I’d given away 200 Genies that month instead of just 20.  Then my check would have been $420 not $42.  Play with the math, it gets pretty exciting.

I’ve been going over the whole MyshoppingGenie opportunity and the web app itself and one of the greatest potential benefits I’ve seen that it has is to help people build their primary business.

It actually doesn’t matter whether or not you’re building an MLM, network marketing or even a traditional brick and mortar business.  The Genie app has some really cool functionality to help you brand your business to your customers and prospects.

This all hinges on the genie’s ability to help people get the lowest price on anything their shopping for. Because it’s been proven to help save users $200 to $300 a month we know it really adds value. And because you can give it away for free, it makes the perfect free bonus or gift to give to your clients and prospects.

The question is, how many of the prospects that you come in contact with every day actually buy from you?  Not many right? The reality is that even if you’re an excellent marketer you probably don’t exceed 10%, more likely its closer to 2% sales conversion. That’s a lot of advertising dollars going down the drain.

So you’ve been searching high and low to find the perfect mlm or  home based business.  You’ve probably heard about all the success stories of people going from zero to millionaire at rocket speed.

But if you’re going to invest your hard earned money and time into an mlm venture you need to make sure (as best you can) that it’s not going to be a waste of time. This is what I used to evaluate any opportunity I look at.

So after over 10 years of pain and punishment there are 4 Red Flags that I’ve uncovered. If you see any
of these things in a prospective mlm opportunity then you  need to beware and start asking questions.

You can use this hard-won knowledge to help you avoid the treacherous ice bergs that you’ll come across as you
attempt to sail over the ocean to financia’l freedom land.

1) Greed or Scarcity

Clue– You find yourself at an network marketing opportunity meeting and everyone around you is all hyped up because the business
looks so amazing.  Maybe it’s because there’s so much money in the compensation plan or because you just have to bring in
2 people and you’ll be paid forever or they promise to pay you 10% monthly interest on the money you put in.

Whatever the reason, if you find yourself so hyped up that you’ve stopped caring if the opportunity even makes sense then RED FLAG!

Especially if that feeling makes you want to join right now this second. If it’s a real business then the opportunity will still make sense when you cool down after the presentation.

2) Scarcity
In business there is often a best time to jump into an opportunity. That’s a fact.  But if someone is pressuring you to join right this
second or they’re offering you incentives to join and telling you to get your questions answered after you’re already in the business
then RED FLAG!

Sure you don’t need to know every minute detail about a company to decide to join but if your questions are being side-stepped
that means you need to look deeper.

3) Unrealisitic Promises
->You only have to make 2 sales
->Get 5% per month interest
-> RED FLAG!

I hate to be an old fogey but as the saying goes “if its sounds too good to be true it probably is”.

I’ve personally lost tens of thousands of $$$ learning this lesson. If you’re sensing a theme so far then you’re pretty sharp.
Scammers always prey on your greed.

For instance if you could make decent ongoing money only doing 2 sales in a business then why isn’t everyone making tons of money? Hmmm….

4) Unnecessarily Complicated Comp Plan
If you need a phd to understand your company’s compensation plan (aka: comp plan) then RED FLAG! I’m not saying that
the whole thing should be brain-dead simple but you should be able to look at it and easily figure out what it would take
for you to make your start up money back. There’s shouldn’t be a lot of crazy hoops for you to jump through to start making
money.

I’ve been in the network marketing industry for a long time and there are still some companies who have comp plans that I have sit and stare at for hours to completely get through.  The bottom line is that if the comp plan is complicated then it’s because the company has created loop holes that keep people working while making sure most people won’t qualify so they don’t have to pay out much money for business created. Well that’s all we have time for today.
